Mémoires is compatible with Snow Leopard

August 26, 2009 by Dmitry

Mac OS X 10.6 “Snow Leopard” is coming on Friday, August 28. I’m happy to announce that Mémoires is fully compatible with it, no upgrades required.

(Of course, if you encounter any bugs that our testing missed, please let us know.)

Ever since I upgraded to Snow Leopard, Memoires no longer opens with the last used document. In fact, it opens with a brand new database. So, I have to go in and open the database I normally work from. Anything you can do to fix this would be appreciated. I love Memoires.

    thanks, Seth

    Hi Seth,

Strange, this works for me. Do you have any journals in Open Recent menu? Also, check that “Reopen last document on startup” is on in Mémoires > Preferences.

    Thanks!

  3. Seth Kahan

My Open Recent menu is blank every time. Very strange. Was not that way before. Yes,I have “Reopen last document on startup” checked in Preferences.

    Please try removing ~/Library/Application Support/Preferences/com.codingrobots.MémoiresAppAndImporter.plist.

This will clear Mémoires preferences. It may help.

Thanks for your support, Dmitry. The file was under ~/Library/Preferences/com.codingrobots.MémoiresAppAndImporter.plist There was no Preferenes under Application Support

I went ahead and deleted it where it was. The next time I fired up Memoires, it told me the application apparently crashed last time I used it (I guess this was because the preferences file was missing?). On start up it asked me if I wanted to check for updates on start-up. I went ahead and opened my usual file, made an entry saved it, and closed it. Then I opened it again and it behaved as before: 1. New database with no entries. 2.Nothing listed in the Open Recent list

Thanks, you did the correct thing, sorry for writing the wrong file path. As for the crash report, it cleared the date of last crash report from preferences, so it asked to send it again (no real crash happened).

I’ll try to reproduce the issue. Thanks for you help!

Could you please try opening System Preferences > Appearance and check that the “Number of recent items” is set to something more than “None”? Thanks!

Hi Dmitri I recently started to use your program, and I am basically satisfied. I just want to be able to write a diary and it doesnt have to be that advanced. But, there is always a but. I find it a bit odd to make titles for my entries specially since it is not possible to assign categories or such so that entries can be sorted in some way. A diary will have many entries after some time, and the inability to sort them by some criteria is this programs most obvious flaw/lack. I°m sure you are aware of this and my question is; will this be implemented in the near future? Since I want to keep a diary more or less for the rest of my life, it is important for me to use an application that can survive to the future. I have looked at other applications, but generally find them to be too packed with complex functionality, which does regretfully clog up the interface and makes it less than ideal to use. Your application has the simplicity needed, but could do with a little bit more.

    regards

    Hi Jon,

I personally don’t like the idea of adding categories or tags to Mémoires, since it will make a simple program more complicated. However, I receive a lot of request for this feature, and I listen to users, so I may look into it. No promises, though.

    Thank you!

  10. Jon

You are a true minimalist. I respect that. Actually I found a way for me to by-pass the lack of this feature; at the end of the entry you can add any words that will work as tags in a search in all entries. So it is possible to make your own system within the application. And most importantly; its minimalistic.

I have the same problem as Seth. After installing Snow Leopard, memoires opens empty, with nothing under open recent. I deleted the preferences as suggested, but that didn’t change anything. problem persists. I found another preference under ~/Library/Application Support/Mémoires/license.plist. Should I delete that as well? Thankful for any help I can get

  12. Dmitry

No, don’t delete it (this is a license file). Please, try first System Preferences > Appearance, and check Number of recent items. It should be set to more than None.

There’s also an isolated problem on Snow Leopard with saving recent items (apart from some users having “None” in recent items), we’re working on fixing it.

Please contact support instead (memoires@codingrobots.com) of writing here in comments — it will be easier to track requests this way. Thank you!

Meanwhile I put my diary into StartUpItems, in System Preferences.

In addition, it would be nice to support 64 bits in Snow Leopard…, just to satisfy a certain geometrical aesthetic taste.

  14. Dmitry

Not only to satisfy the aesthetic state, but to avoid loading the whole 32-bit runtime and binaries in case you run only 64-bit apps, if I’m correct. :-)

  15. Norbert

Hey, when will we have the ability to wrap text around images? And set default spacing?

Just wanted to chime in and say that diary entries should not require a title. I guess one could just write out the date in the title field (how about a shortcut to insert the date into the title field?).

Would love to see some intergration with Facebook/Twitter/Flickr - so that status updates on those services are archived in the Memoire database. An excellent example of this is the Momento iPhone app (which I highly recommend).

I’m just using Memoire as a trial to see how I get on.

    HI Dmitry,

I am facing the same problem with Mémoires: it opens new database every time and there’s nothing in recent menu. I check the number of recent menu entries as well.. it’s set to 10.. but still it’s not working.. any updates on it?

btw.. I simply love the application.. it’s exactly what I was looking for.. sweet n simple.. and no complicated useless functions..

    thanks

See the possible work-around here: http://forum.codingrobots.com/topic/reopen-last-document-and-open-recent#post-2126

    Thanks!

    Dmitry,

    The second solution worked.

    Thanks a lot
